Purchasing Agent Jobs
A purchasing agent job requires professionals to coordinate activities involved with procuring goods and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising for establishment. While conferring with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule, the agent job also requires selection of products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items and estimates values according to knowledge of market price. The agent job also determines the method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid and prepares purchase orders or bid requests. The suitable candidate should also review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. The purchasing agent job also requires professionals to maintain manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories. Agent jobs also include discussing defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action. The agent keeps abreast of market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, new or altered types of materials entering the market, etc.
Typically, a purchasing agent job requires professionals with a bachelor's degree in purchasing or related fields or equivalent. He/She should have minimum of two to three years of experience to land a good job. The agent job requirements also include ability to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and problem solving skills in a changing, dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with demonstrated negotiation skills are also required.
