Job Summary and Scope:
This role exists to assist with purchasing responsibilities for the FedEx Express account. Veritiv fulfills orders for FedEx Express packaging (e.g. boxes, envelopes, paddedpaks) from 7 locations across North America, 1 location in Canada and 1 in Europe. Veritiv purchases the packaging materials on FedEx’s behalf, manages the inventory levels and fulfills FedEx’s customer orders for the packaging. The Purchasing Asssistant ensures supply continuity by following up with both suppliers and Veritiv divisions to ensure that purchase orders are accurate, received and processed in a timely manner.
Place orders for inbound merchandise to multiple distribution facilities.
Responsible for managing the inbound delivery process which includes confirming purchase order price, quantity and delivery dates.
Assist Purchasing Coordinator with item additions and maintenance. Customer cross-reference, pricing set up, and reporting set up. Mainly during new implementations.
Pro-actively identify inventory issues to avoid stock-outages and service failures.
Assist with special projects, including program implementations.
Work closely with Purchasing Coordinator to resolve receiving, overstock or pricing issues.
Invoice Exception management.
Daily communication directly with customer contacts.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience:
College degree or equivalent work experience required.
2-3 years purchasing or inventory management experience, preferably in the distribution industry.
Requires thorough understanding of inventory management, purchasing and expediting.
Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Professional telephone etiquette is required.
Must have strong organizational skills and be attentive to details.
Must be a high energy, self motivated, quick learner with a passion for continuous improvement.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirement
This is an office based position in a temperature controlled environment
Collaborates with inventory manager, customer service reps, and field on business related matters.
