POSITION SUMMARY The Category Manager will be responsible for the establishment of strategic sourcing initiatives and their execution for assigned commodities. The primary commodity for this position is Hydraulics (Lift Gates). Key aspects of the function will be: sourcing, standardization, improved quality performance, and reduced total cost of purchased components. The position involves cross-functional teaming with the Gate Product Manager, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, and Business Unit divisions of JBPCO. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Supplier Management: * Develop and implement strategic sourcing program for assigned categories. * Lead supplier sourcing, evaluation and selection, negotiation, performance monitoring, relationship management, and continuous improvement. * Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, including supplier site visits and relationships at all levels of their organization. * Track and report on supplier strategies, monitoring spend, business allocation, capability gap analysis and facilitate cross-functional review and evaluation. * Develop strategies for the mitigation of risk in the supply chain, overall and for specific new product programs. * Provide benchmarking studies and market analysis. * Negotiate buys & long term agreements for components and raw material. * Organize and lead regular strategic supplier business reviews. * Lead negotiations for assigned commodities. * Monitor market for trends in pricing, new products, and new vendors to improve operating cost domestically and internationally. * Prepare reports for management, government and trade organizations as needed. * Generate and present supplier performance metrics to suppliers and manage associated corrective action andcontinuous improvement initiatives, such as VA-VE and lead time reduction programs. * Perform and/or evaluate root cause problem resolution for all supplier related issues and ensure the integrity of corrective actions. * Organize and execute regular supplier site evaluations and audits. EXPERTISE REQUIRED / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Strong sourcing experience domestically (international experience is a plus) with a proven record of accomplishment of driving out cost. * B.S. in Business or Engineering. * 7-10 years of progressive purchasing / sourcing experience, * 3-5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing setting. * 2-3 years experience in leading supply chain category initiatives. * Strong organizational, analytical and negotiating skills. * Ability to learn and quickly absorb all aspects of a new category and its related industry (Hydraulics /Lift Gates experience a plus). * International sourcing experience a plus. * Advanced analytic ability including proficient level of knowledge in using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. * APIC certification and CPM certification, desirable. * Ability to travel up to 25 to 50%. * Ability to manage long lead-time product deliveries in support of production. * Thorough knowledge of Purchasing Law and Uniform Commercial Code. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Working in an office environment in a seated position a minimum of eight hours per day is required. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
