The Assistant Buyer assists in the achievement of assigned category gross margin, sales and total inventory turn objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Monitors and assists with the implementation of merchandise plans *Ensures accurate support documentation for orders, advertising and samples *Provides data on product cost, prices, vendor performance and demographics *Coordinates with merchandise planning & allocation as well as store operations teams *Analyzes performance regarding SKU's, vendors, sales, margin and inventory *Makes recommendations to supervisor for merchandise plan changes *Assist in the selection and purchase of merchandise including type, quality, source, timing, delivery, mix and promotion for assigned merchandise category *Creates and implements plans to maximize gross profit by coordinating sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, cost of promotion and markdowns for assigned category *Develops and communicates effective merchandising programs at store level. Ensures beneficial vendor alliances *Identifies new business opportunities consistent with DSW business short and long-term strategies *Maximizes division product mix, gross margin, promotional expenditures and markdowns
Required Skills and Competencies:
*Strong analytical skills *Solid verbal and written communication skills
*1-3 years assistant buyer experience preferably in footwear *1-3 years as store planner or allocator
*Bachelor's degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing or Business
