Director, Demand Planning
The Manager of Demand Planning will be responsible for the development of the Demand Plan for the Beverage business within the Newell Brands Outdoor & Recreation group which includes the Contigo, Bubba and Rubbermaid brands. The Demand Planning Manager is responsible for ensuring that high quality demand plans are developed by leveraging SAP-APO statistical forecasting, the best available cross-functional inputs and a team of five Chicago-based demand planners.
Is a leader within the organization and plays an influencer role to impact and steer actions of individuals that s/he has no direct authority over. Ability to lead the organization to Best-in-Class S&OP standards that are benchmarked against world class companies. Develops disciplined processes and techniques and responds to changing needs within the business. Ability to interpret complex data and to provide analysis, forecast projection and conclusions in a meaningful format. Must be able to address planning/forecasting related issues that the manufacturing plants and procurement teams bring to the table, evaluating the problems, and finding the best course of action.
Manage current and long term forecast projections to drive production and inventory planning goals. Measure demand planning projections against Sales projections and manage the gap reconciliation process.
Develop an accurate, high quality SKU level demand plan for all markets, channels and/or customers by utilizing best-practice processes including statistical forecasting, knowledge of the business and robust cross-functional collaboration.
Schedule and facilitate the S&OP review meetings including the Integration meetings and Executive Review meetings.
Collaborate with the supply team to create action plans to reduce inventory to year end targets.
Oversee the design and preparation of forecast reporting and analysis tools for all phases of the forecast process. Ensure results align with overall Supply Chain strategy.
Drive continuous improvement with our S&OP process through increased visibility and participation. Analyze and improve forecast accuracy; effectively determine sources of error and implement appropriate improvement plans.
Drive continuous improvements with the planning team’s interaction with other departments and contacts to foster greater communication – Sales, Marketing, Finance, D&T and customers.
Be knowledgeable on industry forecasting standards and best practices with a focus on statistical forecasting. Incorporate best practices and drive continuous process improvements. Manage operational variables that impact company KPI’s – productivity, line fill, cost of failure, safety and inventory.
Ensure Demand Planning team compliance with regulatory requirements including company ethics, code of conduct and Sarbanes Oxley accounting rules.
Team Development – Work with the demand planning team to promote engagement by providing performance feedback and coaching. Provide individualized development and career planning for each team member.
Support all strategic initiatives defined by our Supply Chain leaders.
Bachelors/University degree in Purchasing, Operations, Supply Chain Management or related Business degree required; or equivalent job exposure and experience in supply chain management. MBA preferred.
Five (5) or more years of purchasing, sourcing, buying, manufacturing, operations, supply planning or supply chain experience.
Experience with MRP/ERP systems and the ability to optimize settings and performance. SAP APO/DP experience a plus.
Excellent understanding of forecasting and forecast analysis techniques along with their financial and operational impacts.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
Proven record of optimizing forecast accuracy through experience and demand planning background.
Strong understanding of the S&OP process with the ability to drive continuous improvement.
Conflict Management/Resolution experience.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
Ability to document detailed process and functional specifications as required.
Proven successful track record on cross-functional team projects, including leading teams.
Ability to effectively communicate across functional departments and levels.
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to build a business case for proposed solutions.
Strong strategic skills with ability and vision to map out future state business processes.
Ability to travel as needed to support our business needs.
