Job Description

Medline Industries, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Director of Purchasing for the Sterile Procedure Tray (SPT) Division in Waukegan, IL. This position will oversee, monitor, and lead Reorder Buying (ROB) managers/supervisors in support of all domestic and international buying/procurement activities (planning and purchasing) for 4 SPT North American manufacturing locations culminating in 34,000 unique components for a total of $730M in annual spend (Domestic: $480M & 800 vendors, Overseas: $250M & 100 vendors). Responsibilities include: ensuring department and support personnel are focused on the continuous improvement of processes and focused on improving key metrics. Also, recommend strategic direction and clearly and concisely articulate resource needs and priorities to senior management using data driving analysis. This position reports to the VP of Supply Chain. We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working professional with a successful background in global and domestic procurement. This person will need to have both strong analytical and communication skills, with a desire to work for a fast-paced, large, privately-held organization. In addition to exceptional leadership, you must have a roll-up your sleeves attitude. * Responsible for the overall performance of the entire Reorder Buying/Procurement department including domestic and international component planning, ordering, stocking, and expediting as well as driving department efficiency and labor productivity improvements. * Sets short, mid, and long term strategic goals to shape the future of the department resulting in component shortage reductions, on-going cost savings, process improvements, component excess reduction, and ERP/MRP systems improvements. * Oversee identification and resolution of import system (Global Supply Chain) issues and coordinate communications, relationship, and direction between US ROB team, Shanghai team and other US-based division purchasing departments. Travel to Asia for meetings with Shanghai team and vendor visits. * Monitors component inventory levels across 4 manufacturing levels, keeping each within a healthy zone based on component demand and balancing inventory, as necessary to minimize warehouse space needs. * Develops and uses forward looking tools, such as component inventory Days of Supply (DOS) reports, to proactively address potential shortages. * Anticipates challenges and develops contingency plans to complex issues, then recommends improvements and resource needs to senior management. Works within and across divisions to solve problems, improve processes, and accomplish goals. * Provide support to Medline Canada and other international SPT locations through the International Reorder Buying team. * Identifies criteria and benchmarks to measure success of division/department plans and tracks accordingly; adapts priorities to changing business conditions. Also creates method and tools to track vendor performance and takes actions when performance falls outside of acceptable level or is trending in negative direction. * Balances priorities, demands, and constraints to set long-term strategic goals and helps shape the future of the function or business area; influences others and the organization. * Researches and identifies new industry developments and techniques and integrates into department. * Develop, coach, and mentor staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; build and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies to meet today's needs and anticipated future needs. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor's * degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or other related field Relevant Work Experience * At least 7 years Supply Chain Management experience * At least 5 years purchasing/procurement experience * At least 5 years of experience managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating and directing people as they work. Additional * Must have strong understanding and experience with ERP systems (AS400 and/or SAP is a plus) * Advanced, detailed knowledge level of MRP, buying, demand management and forecasting, up to and including reconciling changes. * Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel (including functions, vlookup, pivot tables, graphing/charting, conditional formatting, and processing large amounts of data). * Experience with Microsoft Access is a plus * Must show visionary thinking and demonstrate expert knowledge in solving of complex, department-wide and external issues * Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and volume. * Ability to apply concepts of algebra and business statistics. * Ability and willingness to travel: 2-3 weeks/year internationally and 3-4 weeks domestically per year
