Profile

Kempsville Building Materials Buyer/Inventory Specialist is responsible for purchasing and managing a variety of building materials that are kept at the location.  Ensuring that our vendors are providing the best combination of quality, service & price to our store as well as helping to determin the best products to fulfill customer needs.  This position also requires the management of inventory quantities and accuracy of counts maintained in POS.  A stron belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.



Requirements to be Considered for the Position:





  • 5 years previous purchasing experience in the building materials industry


  • Experience in vendor negotiation


  • Experience in analysis and forecasting


  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities


  • Ability to multi task, organize, prioritize and coordinate work activities


  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule; including weekends and holidays




Responsibilities of the Position:



Purchasing & Inventory Control:





  • Locates products that best fit our customer profile and presents them to management


  • Develops and implements programs to increase margin dollars by product line


  • Forecasts material requirements by analyzing trends to establish stocking levels for the location


  • Negotiates contracts with the vendors, ensuring that vendors are providing quality products, competitive pricing and service to our location and customers


  • Reviews and understands current and corporate programs, while also having the ability to establish local market programs when needed




Inventory Control:





  • Processes inventory paperwork including order entry and receiving


  • Ensures quantities and cost are accurately maintained in POS


  • Conducts and directs others to conduct cycle counts; works to resolve overages and shortages


  • Orders and receives material to yard


  • Oversees inventory control; plans exit strategy for discontinued items and the return of slow selling products




Store Support:





  • Ensures that stores are receiving updated information on products including the availability, vendor information, contacts and lead times


  • Assists in product issues including shipments, quality & defective material by communicating with the store and vendor
