Our client is a manufacturer and distributor in the industrial and marine market. Business is strong! As a Buyer you will report to the President for the purchase of the goods, materials, supplies and services. You will work with the President, Office Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Production Supervisor, Industrial Engineering Manager, Sales Managers - Marine Products & ZLGP, sales personnel, accounting personnel, customers and others from time to time.

Monthly gainsharing and insurance premium is employer paid.

Responsibilities for the Buyer include: Planning & directing all Buyer Department functions. Acquisition of goods and services.

Preparing and evaluate requests for the purchase of materials, equipment and service of equipment.

Establishing, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures for the continuous improvement of the department and to train internal staff on those policies and procedures.

Providing cost and vendor analysis for goods and services. Identifying opportunities for supply consolidation programs. Challenging cost increases. Negotiating cost/quality services as required. Develop and implement cost reductions/savings.

Overseeing expediting procedures, monitoring supplier performance, resolving supplier delinquencies and developing new sources of supply and service.

Providing supplier documentation and justification for purchases. Conferring with other employees on relevant problems and is responsible for problem resolution.

Operation, training and monitoring all computerized Buyer programs.

Directing and verifying cycle counts (if deemed necessary) / inventory control and scheduled inventories

Working within the existing Kanban/Pull Method of Manufacturing techniques to insure the proper inventory levels and elimination of obsolete items.

Establishing, maintaining and monitoring Buyer performance metrics such as inventory turns, material cost history, material availability, etc.

Maintaining the Material/ Finishing Certifications computer records.

Administering & documenting vendor quality and delivery performance.

Your background should include: Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Experience can replace the educational background.

Minimum of 4 years of purchasing experience.

Experience with the Pull Method of Manufacturing---KANBAN a plus

ISO experience.

Ability to organize tasks, records, and schedules.

Sourcing experience.

Experience with vendor audits/visits.

Strong computer skills.

Built in sense of urgency.

Detail oriented.
